Starcraft 2 Zerg Vs Zerg Strategy - Quick Roaches Into Mutalisks Strategy

Expert Author Tyson Faulkner

Since most Zerg vs Zerg strategies involve going Zergling/Baneling, to circumvent this you can get some quick Roaches. There will be a small window where you are fairly vulnerable, but as long as you stay alive during that time you'll be able to defend any amount of Zerglings & Banelings easily.

This build will be pretty close the the standard Starcraft 2 Zerg build order, but with a couple differences. Get a Spawning Pool at 14 then an Extractor at 13. Make some Zerglings for early defense and as soon as you have enough gas put down a Roach Warren. When it's done, get 4 Roaches up and head to your ramp. If your opponent has Zerglings inside your base already, it's best to chase them down and try to kill them. But if he doesn't, you're pretty good to go.

Since Roaches are armored units and they have so much life, you can use them to block your ramp very effectively. It takes a whopping 8 Banelings to kill a Roach, but they do splash damage so be careful not to keep your Roaches too close together. Have your Roaches hold position on your ramp spaced apart to keep them alive as long as possible and prevent the Banelings from getting in your base.

As you can, increase your Roach count a bit and upgrade to a Lair and a put down a Spire. You'll be able to get Mutalisks out pretty quick which will decimate his army, give you map control and allow you to expand. Head to his base with your Mutalisks to see if you can cripple his economy or kill his Zergling army.

If you move out now with your Roaches you will likely be able to take the game early or at least establish a good economy and firm map control.
