Spill Pads - The Key to Keeping Absorbents Handy For Cleaning Up Spills Anyplace and Anytime

Expert Author Travis Zdrazil

The trick to cleaning spills up fast is to have absorbents handy right then and there. But how do you do that if you have multiple places where spills can happen. Read on to find out how spill pads could be your perfect solution.

Effective prevention or spill management requires you to have absorbents at the ready any place where spills could occur in your facility. But that could be dozens -- or even hundreds of places.

Imagine the cost of stocking each and every one of those places with a spill kit. Those kits can get expensive, and to have hundreds of them? And it's not just the expense. Where are you going to keep all those kits?

Fortunately, you won't have to buy hundreds of spill kits or even dozens of them. Instead, just a few, and in addition, get a box or more of absorbent pads or rolls. That way, you can have a few pads in each location where spill prone activities are performed. Not only won't that cost much, but those pads take up hardly any room.

Of course, you could also choose to get spill pads in rolls instead of in boxes. Since the rolls are perforated, you can tear off sections to get just what you'll need. Once again, those can then be kept handy for instant spill clean-up.

What if the spill is larger? Once you take action with the handy spill pads, you can also send for backup -- and get one of the spill kits that may be stored elsewhere in the facility. So while you still need to get spill kits -- you don't have to get one for every single place where you anticipate potential spills.

Which type of spill pads should you get? There are pads available in the three main varieties -- universal, oil only, and hazmat. In addition, you can also get special pads with antistatic qualities as well as polybacked pads.

If you get high quality pads, you'll find that they are lint-free, and are dimpled in order to soak up liquids very quickly. They keep their shape even when they have soaked up their fill.

And here's one more cool thing: If you have a hand wringer, you'll be able to wring them out once they're saturated and use them again. They're sturdy enough to withstand many go-arounds, so you won't be stuck with having to dispose of lots of soaked spill pads. This makes them not only highly economical but also environmentally friendly.
