Speeding Ticket Insurance Problems - Why Being Found Guilty of Speeding is Costly
Print This Article Ezine Publisher Send To Friends Add To Favorites Post A Comment Suggest Topic Report Author

Many people are happy to find that they might have got their speeding ticket reduced to a lower fine if they plead guilty to the charge. They feel they just got a deal. Technically they did have to pay less money in fines, but the bigger issue of it all is going to be the increase in insurance premiums.

Just one speeding ticket one an otherwise clean driving record can make insurance premiums go up by 30% over a three year period. If you are paying $600 a year for auto insurance, then this one ticket will end up costing you more than $500 in increased premiums over that three year period. That's quite a bit of money for one ticket.

The key to not getting an increase in insurance from your speeding ticket, is to get a deal where this ticket or offense doesn't go on your driving record. There are some options to making sure that this happens.

If you haven't had speeding tickets or traffic violations in the past or at least not recently so your driving record is clean, you can ask for traffic school. Traffic school will take more than a few hours of your time most likely on a Saturday and it might have a fee that you must pay to be in the class, but the ticket will be thrown out. Therefore you insurance premiums won't go up.

Another method is to actually fight the ticket. There are a variety of methods to fighting tickets. Maybe the speed limit sign was blocked or obstructed. Maybe the cop used a method to pull you over that's not allowed in the area like eyeballing your speed or pacing. Maybe the cop's equipment like their radar gun had not been properly calibrated as recently as the law requires. There are many defenses against speeding tickets. It's your right to go and fight these in court because you aren't guilty until it's proven. If the ticket is thrown out, that will save those insurance premiums.
