Speed Camera Myths - These Won't Help You Get Out of a Speeding Ticket
Print This Article Ezine Publisher Send To Friends Add To Favorites Post A Comment Suggest Topic Report Author

The myths and urban legends of driving are all over the place. Many think they have the perfect way of beating the system when it comes to speed cameras. Most of the information out there in how to beat speed cameras are nothing more than myth that are completely untrue.

Myth: Slowing down for the camera then speeding up again later will help you not get caught.

This actually used to work when the speed was taken at a single point. Most cameras today are measuring more than one point to get an average speed meaning that this technique won't work.

Myth: Using special tapes, paints, or metals like aluminum foil will make your car unreadable by radar therefore you can't be caught.

There are many claims that a special material will keep your car from being read by radar. But the reality is that none of these claims seem to stand their ground. The issue to also consider is that if something worked well right now it would be a limited time before radar was improved to read the speed anyway.

Myth: Using a special device will scramble the radar on the speed cameras.

Devices like this really don't work. If you want to use technology to your advantage, there are phone and GPS applications that will show you where the cameras are. The side effect of people knowing where the cameras are is that they will drive safer and slower.

What is a common speed camera defense to use in court?

One of the most common ways people beat a speed camera ticket in court is by a picture that shows it was another driver or a picture that is too blurry to show it's them. It has to be proven that it was you driving the car and not someone else.
