Spectacular Content Creation Tips - Blogging is a Great Way to Build Content

Expert Author Lorna Shanks

Blogging is appealing on many levels-it keeps a site fresh, it allows you to voice an opinion, and through easy plug in tools-it's simple enough to add new content to a site and keep it dynamic without costly overhauls to site design. But sometimes...for anyone and everyone...the ideas just aren't there.

So what to do? Leave the same post gathering dust for weeks? That is a huge mistake-then, you'll lose any following you have and even if the rest of your content is up-to-date (or non-changing) the whole site seems stale. Chain yourself to your desk? That's a tough one too-if your ideas aren't coming, they aren't coming! Here are a couple tricks of the trade to keep a blogger blogging...

1. Tap into an article you've written before-especially if you've garnered comments on it. Discuss the comments, or the arguments they presented; take a look at the other side of the argument-or, at a minimum, if all of the comments agree with you, talk about how clever you are to have ever posted on this topic in the first place!

2. Keep a notebook by your side and jot down topics, whenever they come to you-at night, in the grocery store, watching TV. If you at least have a topic list to draw from it's easier than starting from scratch staring at a blank computer screen and pulsing curser.

Sometimes you can think of a line or two that are the perfect start or the ideal conclusion to a blog-and then, build some content around that. You'd be surprised how many times you have nothing at all to write about but one great line to start from...and next thing you know one blog entry has turned into 3 or 4.

3. And on that note-store those 3 or 4. Don't post them all at once! If you're feeling particularly creative, write a bunch of entries and save them for future posting; space them out over a week or two. Even if further creativity strikes, it's good to have a storehouse to draw from on the off chance you hit another dry spell.

4. Search the web for other prolific writers...and improve. There are sites and resources for articles that are OK to share (with proper credit and attribution of course). Sometimes you can draw off of another writer's thoughts on future posts, or just get a discussion going from their ideas. Again, just be sure to include their name and any reference information they have included.

5. Outsource some writing - find someone that loves to write - even a college student (preferably an English or Journalism major!). Just make sure that the quality control that you'd expect is there, and that they've given you the rights to use it.

Keeping the ideas flowing all the time can be daunting. But don't despair... creativity is available for rent or hire, and sooner or later you'll be inspired to blog again!
