Southeast Truck Driving Schools

Several highways and interstates run through the southeastern United States. Many of these highways, which run their way through hills and backcountry, are the best means of transporting people, animals, food, lumber, and much more to cities and towns throughout the region.

Many of these items are delivered by experienced truck drivers, and doing so isn't always an easy task. For those that drive semi trucks, the days can be long. If a load of lumber is being picked up in Nashville, Tennessee that must be delivered to a construction site in Hickory, North Carolina, by 8am, the driver will have to be on I-40 East while it is still very dark outside. The driver of this particular truck might continue heading south, into South Carolina, where he picks up additional goods to deliver to Cheraw, Lamar, and Myrtle Beach, before returning for the day. Or, he may be out for several days, picking up and delivering items throughout the states of Alabama, Georgia, North and South Carolina, Florida, Tennessee, and Mississippi. This is known as long-haul trucking.

Of course, there are opportunities for truck drivers to work more normal hours, making deliveries within 100 miles of their own home.

Whether a driver wants a long haul job, or a job that is close to home, there are several southeast truck driving jobs available. It is only a matter of finding a job that they are qualified for, letting the company know that they are interested, and interviewing for the position.

Where to Look

Of course there are the obvious places to look-online job sites and the newspaper, but you may also want to try local truck driving schools (perhaps the one you graduated from), and you can also apply at some of the region's top industries, including the agricultural industry and the timber industry.

Submitting a Resume

You can type up your resume and mail it in, or you can look at each individual company's website and see if you can email your resume. Either way, make sure you have someone look over it before you send it off. Also, many companies provide applications right on their website; all you have to do is fill it out.

Interviewing for the Position

If your qualifications, which are listed either on your resume or on an application, meet the needs of a company, they will call and invite you to interview with them. If you are looking for a regional job, and the company is in another state, you may have your interview over the phone, at a truck driving school near your home, or you may have to drive to the company's headquarters.
