Soothe Your Kitty From the Loud Noise Phobia

There might be several instances when you were playing your favorite symphony under the piano lamp or piano lamps with your beloved kitty next to you. That may be a comforting sound to your cat, but they tend to get startled by unexpected loud noises. It is not easy for them to understand what these sudden and varied loud sounds mean. Upon hearing such sounds, cats are usually in a complete bedlam as to what they should do and where to hide in order to protect themselves from the sounds. On top of that, cats have sensitive hearing.

It may happen at times that your cat can become used to some loud sounds on her own. Yet at times, the intensity can startle it which can eventually develop into a fear. When scared, a cat is not much different from a child who has encountered something overpowering and frightening. It really needs your attention at that time as it cannot understand by itself that there is nothing to worry about.

But if your kitty becomes scared, you can definitely help it get over cringing, hiding and freaking out responses on hearing a sudden loud noise. The most common sounds that can possibly scare your cat are that of thunder and fireworks. However, some artificial sounds such as that of a construction instrument can also raise the fur of your kitty. What you can do is to either eliminate the source of sound or if that is not in your hands then at least try to calm the cat down. Here are some important measures you can take:

• Try to keep your cat away from the source of the commotion. It is better to take it to a centralized room where the noise is less.

• You can even try to soothe it by playing some soft music. For instance, the sound of the harp is quite soothing to the animals.

• You can be the best distraction when your cat is scared as they look towards humans as a maternal substitute. So pet and distract the cat until the noise subsides.

• If you still feel that there is some fear left after the original startling effect, then this can be a long-term fear. You can desensitize your cat to loud sounds by exposing it to the low volume of the same sound and then gradually increasing it overtime. This will familiarize the cat to that sound and then it will not react the same way. Even during the exposure, you can soothe or distract your kitty. Another way is to lure your cat by offering a special treat as a gift for what it has endured.

The desensitization is meant for almost all loud sounds, but you may need to repeat the process depending upon how arousing the sound is for your cat. One thing worth noting is that all cats do not respond the same way. But generally speaking, your cat will be less likely to fear such anxiety-provoking sounds and not act anxiously.
