Soothe Your Baby When Gassy - An Herbal Therapy

Tummy troubles are very common in young babies of 6-8 weeks. And gas problem is one of the major. It can be very painful for parents to see their baby cry hysterically right after being fed or when waking up from sleep. My newborn had the same problem even though he was exclusively breastfed. And I was also very careful about my diet. Why does a breastfed baby become gassy? Some of the reasons are listed below:-

  • A healthy milk supply and excessive dripping or fast flow of milk can cause the baby to choke and gag which creates bubbles.
  • Baby doesn't burp after feeding. This can result in trapped bubbles inside the tummy.
  • Could be something the mother drink or eat such as alcohol or allergenic foods such as onion, chili, potatoes etc.

Whatever the reasons maybe you can always relive your baby from the pain and put him to sleep with all the peace and quiet. My mother in law did this herbal practice for my son and it worked wonders. For this herbal therapy you will require:-

  • 4 tblsp of carom seeds
  • A small piece of coal, ignited
  • Few drops of castor oil

The method

  • In a warm room lay your baby on the bed, do not undress him completely, only expose his tummy.
  • Heat a metal spoon on the stove and put the drops of castor oil. When the oil is slightly warm rub it between your palms and then massage your baby's tummy gently in circular motions. Keep massaging for 2-3 minutes.
  • On the ignited piece of coal sprinkle some carom seeds. The seeds will sizzle and the fumes will form. Try to capture the fumes on the palms of your hand and then quickly place your hand on your baby's tummy.
  • Repeat this procedure until you have sizzled all the seeds.

After you are done with this therapy immediately dress up your baby warmly. A few farts are definitely releasedJ

Precautions

  • Always carry out this procedure in the presence of another adult person.
  • Be very careful when igniting the coal. Always use tongs.
  • Put all the things on a tray and place the tray away from the baby.
