For many people they realize that just because they retire is no reason to turn off their minds, in fact they couldn't even if they wanted too. Perhaps this is why so many business people turn to consulting on the side in retirement for fun, a few dollars of play money, and a way to keep your mind busy. I'm not sure if that is why I do this, or maybe I just like to help people, and I remember that not long ago I was in the same position.
In fact, I remember needing help, and there weren't a lot of people around who could help me, because we didn't have the Internet back then, and I actually when began, I basically started the industry; mobile on-site car washing.
Not long ago, I got to talking to another mobile car wash operator, who wished to expand his business. I indicated that we can do this online, and he could send me the questions and I would answer them. Interestingly enough, he was very wise to mention at the top of his first set of questions;
"This is my first series of questions and the answers will dictate new questions I'm sure."
Indeed, this usually how it works when you drill down the subject matter. More importantly perhaps is once you get going you'll have a lot of time to think because washing cars is mindless, especially when they are all in a row and you start to get good at it. And then you will think of new ways to do it faster, quicker, and with a better quality.
That's when the real questions start, because these are just the basic questions now - anyway, that's what I had always found while I was franchising. In the first few months of the new franchisee they would literally have thousands of questions. And often they would have new questions which were not even in our manuals or training procedures, causing me to continually upgrade.
Perhaps it's better to you ask these questions now to me that way when you go into an equipment vendor to buy equipment you will be knowledgeable, and therefore the equipment vendor cannot lead you into the wrong equipment, or sell you something you really don't need. So yes, this will be your first series of questions, and you will have many new questions based on these answers. Nevertheless, I will try to answer them the best way possible, so you can get a good grasp of all this.
I hope you will consider this is a case study, and I certainly hope it helps you as you mentor the next generation of entrepreneurs. Think on it.
