I have talked about solar energy advantages in some of my previous articles. In this article I will talk to you about some of the disadvantages that may result as a result of utilizing solar energy. However, i sincerely hope that this will not deter you from doing and choosing to install solar panels in your house. The only reason that I am giving out this information is because I want you to be completely aware of what you are choosing to do rather than blindly choose to do and follow guides that teach you how to make use of solar energy for building your own solar panels at home. However, I would also like to remind you about one of the biggest solar energy advantage. You can combine the traditional source of energy that you have been using for so long until now along with the solar energy that is produced by the solar photovoltaic cell. This combination can make sure that at times when you do not have access to the sun such as during the night etc., you can still use the traditional source of energy to get the electricity to power your house. You can also save a lot of money as well by working on it in this way. Alright then, now let us get to some of the disadvantages that are involved in using solar energy as your primary source of renewable energy.
1. One of the most popular reasons that deters people from installing solar panel cells in their homes is when they see the large start up costs involved. True, the initial costs may look intimidating and formidable at first sight. But you have to look upon it as an investment. You are investing in the future. What do you think of when you are investing financially in stocks and shares in a certain company. You were probably thinking of all the money that you will possibly earn in the future when you sell the share or the stock back at the stock market. This is very similar to that as well. This time, however, you should be happier as it is for one thing, a less riskier investment than a financial investment. The other plus part is that it is almost maintenance free after the initial investment as long as you set it up after following the correct directions. As a result, you should look at it as a long term investment as it can save you a lot of money in the future years.
2. The other more common question that most people have is regarding how they can get enough solar energy during rainy days or cloudy days or when there is no sun, i.e. during the night. This brings us to a technical term that most people in this industry tend to use to describe this. It is called net-metering and is something that your local utility company does to your electric meter in order to make sure that you are paying the correct money for whatever amount of electricity. Here is the biggest plus point. If you generate more electricity than you use up, then you can sell that energy to the utility company in exchange for money.
3. A potential problem that could arise is when you do not have enough space to place enough photovoltaic cells that can power up the entire house. What some people do is to use it mainly for heating purposes more than anything else. But if you have large enough area to place solar panels, then you need not worry at all as you can generate plenty of electricity for yourself.
Another problem that most people report is that you have to depend on the location of the sun in order to make sure that the solar panels work. This is not entirely true as you can get creative and put your thinking caps on and use mirrors in a creative way to reflect the sun's rays on to the panel irrespective of what the sun's location is. This is what I have done in my rooftop and trust me, it does not take long to do this.
I hope that you were not discouraged from getting and installing solar powered panels for generating electricity in your house. Look at the brighter side of things and utilize the solar energy advantages and disadvantages to the fullest extent possible.
