With the unemployment rates at statistical highs, record numbers of people losing their homes or seeing home values decrease, and people having the value of their savings and investments eroded, there is no doubt that these are desperate times. Although many people are able to maintain their life styles, the bad economy has adversely affected much of the population of the United States. Things are not any better economically throughout most of the world.

Although many people struggle with home based businesses, a select number are seeing no decrease in their business and in fact may be doing extremely well financially. There are a few at the top of network marketing businesses and internet businesses who are having phenomenal success even in a bad economy.

People are desperate to find a way to earn money. With many workers having lost their jobs, it is a time when people are looking for a way out of the financial strain which engulfs them. This is a time when network marketing companies may thrive as people search for a way to earn money. Indeed, it is possible to earn great sums of money in the network marketing (MLM or multi-level marketing which are other names by which this industry is called). There are people doing it everyday, but there are many more who will not succeed than those who will.

Network marketing distributors are told by their upline (the person who recruited them and the people above him or her) to do certain things in order to be successful. Some of these include:

• Set your goals and review them regularly. Remember your WHY.
• Make a list of friends, family, and acquaintances
• Start talking to people about the business and do it everyday
• Become committed to your products and the opportunity
• Learn all your can about your business and keep up on training
• Become a leader

As a person contacts his/her warm market and experiences rejection, it becomes more difficult to continue to make those contacts. A better way may be to join a network marketing and internet "guru" who teaches how to get leads online so that interested people contact you instead of the other way around. There are many who are touting their products to help people build their businesses. This method may help people to succeed in their home based business. There are many opportunities to find success, but it takes careful review and study. Then it requires jumping in and working hard.
