Some Nutrition Myths

There are a lot of myths about nutrition and diet theses days. Although some are true, some of these are speculations without any clear basis. Below are some of the popular myths that we can clarify one by one.

Eating after 8pm will make you fat. This is one of the myths people think is true. Over eating makes you fat. And over eating happens anytime. There are no specific time where one person can be considered to be over eating. When you eat after 8pm, calories are used up as immediate energy. We must remember that we need calories to survive even when we are sleeping. We burn calories more than we take in so we will lose weight if we do not eat.

Fat is bad for you. This is not true. Because our body need fat, the good kind of fat. Good fat can be found in seeds, oily fish and nuts. These fatty acids are called omega 3 which is actually good foe our heart and joints. In taking the right kind of fat actually reduces our risk of having heart disease and can also help us lose extra weight. Just avoid fat that is still solid in room temperature as this will increase out cholesterol level.

Protein shake helps you lose weight. This is true. Protein shakes have several features that make them really popular. They have muscle building characteristics and that's why a lot of athletes and bodybuilders use them. They are also a great weight loss supplement because they keep your appetite in control.

Starving is a good way to loose weight. This is untrue. It is a fact that fasting does not decrease body weight and is dangerous. If you fast, your body switches to starvation mode. And this is very dangerous because your brain will tell your body to store any food. And you will eventually eat a lot of fatty food. Fasting also lowers your metabolism in the long run. And this will cause you to pile on the pounds when you begin to eat again.

Eating a lot of meat will get you big. This is not true because you would need variety in your diet. Chicken, turkey and beef meat are a good source of protein but you would need more than meat to have a healthy diet. You also need carbohydrates for energy. Your body also needs healthy fats. Fruits and vegetables also provide you your daily in take of vitamins and minerals.

Just remember, to be healthy, you need to watch what you eat. Just make sure the food you intake are rich in vitamins and minerals and the things that your body needs to keep it healthy and in shape.
