Do you have a snoring problem? Have you tried sleeping next to someone who snores? If you have a problem you should try to find a remedy fast because it is one of the most annoying sounds one can experience. Snoring is the sound result of the vibration of some tissues in our airways. Some people have no idea that they have a snoring problem because they do not hear themselves snore and they do not share their room with another person. In many cases, the only way to know if you have a snoring problem is if someone tells you about it.

Snoring may not be much of a problem if your snore is not loud or if it disappears when you change your sleeping position. You have an issue when you snore loudly and frequently in such a way that you disturb your roommate or loved one and when you wake up choking and gasping for air as though you were drowning in your sleep.

Causes Of Snoring

Snoring is caused by the obstruction in the airways. These obstructions are normally fatty tissues that have developed in the throat or neck region. Other causes of snoring are the position one assumes when sleeping and the wrong placement of the jaw or tongue when sleeping. Snoring can also be caused by the collapse of your neck or throat muscles when you sleep. There are many causes of this collapse, mainly due to the ingestion of muscle relaxant medication, alcohol or antihistamines. That's why most people often snore only after they consume alcohol.

Remedies For Your Snoring Problem

Elevating your head may help resolve your snoring problem. By lying flat on your back, your chest presses down on the air passages and makes breathing more difficult. Sleeping with your head on two or more pillows will ease the pressure of your chest on the air passages and reduce snoring. Another way to treat a snoring problem is to lose excess weight. Snoring is primarily caused by obstruction of the airways, which can be made of fatty tissue. By losing those extra pounds you can eliminate the fatty tissue obstructing your airways and also help to lessen the pressure that your chest puts on your air ways when you sleep flat on your back.

Quitting smoking can help overcome your snoring problem. Smoking causes irritation to your respiratory system and making it inflamed and narrower. Hence, you will find it more difficult for to breathe. Your snoring problem can also be resolved with surgery. Widening your throat by eliminating the fatty tissue that line it can help overcome your snoring problem.

Only consider surgery to be your last resort. Consider the other methods first before opting for surgery. Persistent snoring and irregular breathing during sleep can be signs of a more serious condition. If you have these, consult a doctor for your health and treatment options.
