Small Business Marketing Using A Bright Yellow Lemon

Expert Author Wesley B Murph

Do you own and operate a small business?

If so, then surely you'd like a way to get more new customers... get them coming back more often... and get them referring their friends, right? Of course. Who wouldn't?

Alrighty then, let's do an exercise that will put your small business marketing on steroids.

OK?

What I want you to do is put a picture of a bright yellow lemon in your head. This lemon is bigger than average about the size of a tennis ball. It's shell is a bit bumpy. And at either end of this lemon there are two small lumps.

Can you see that lemon?

Can you feel it in your hands?

Good. Now I want you to grab an imaginary knife. And cut your lemon into two slices.

Did you do that in your head? Good.

What happened when you cut your big yellow lemon into two pieces?

Probably three things:

First, it probably squirted some rather tart juice into the air.

Second, you probably got a big whiff of citrus in your nose.

And third, you probably heard some kind of cutting noise, right.

Alright good. Now I want you to bite into that imaginary lemon. Come on, humor me. Go ahead and take an imaginary bite of that big, yellow juicy lemon.

What's it taste like?

Like a bitter lemon, right? Who'd want to eat one of those? Not me, and probably not you either. And when you bit into your bright yellow lemon, did any citrus juice squirt on you? Did it spray you in the face? Get in your eyes? Or go up your nose?

OK, so what's any of this have to do with putting more customers, repeat sales and referrals into your business? EVERYTHING. You see the exercise I just did with you dialed in all of your senses. Go ahead and read what I wrote again to see for yourself.

You used your eyes, ears, nose, mouth and hands to follow along, right?

Well that's exactly how you write captivating sales copy so your marketing piece gets read and responded to. In fact, once you develop the ability to tap into your prospect's senses, it's nearly impossible for them to tune you out.

Sure they may not buy.

Nothing is perfect. But I guarantee they'll read your entire piece just to see what's next. Kind of like you did with this article.

My point?

The next time you write a client newsletter... a sales letter... website copy... a flyer... or any other kind of small business marketing piece, try to get your reader's senses involved and your results will go through the roof.
