Being able to speak correctly is a luxury often overlooked by the average person, but to those with difficulties verbalizing their thoughts or hearing others, it can be a life-changing ordeal. Luckily, thanks to modern technology great deficiencies such as speech and hearing ineptitude can actually be to your benefit, as odd as it may sound.
As someone who has overcome, and still exhibits symptoms of a speech disorder, I know what it's like to have all of my ideas and thoughts constrained to my self. While it can be tough, often emotionally frustrating when you can't express exactly what it is you're feeling, it does have its own Darwinian side-effects that can only be described as an unforeseen blessing.
In the past, problems speaking pretty much meant a life of solitude and ostracism. After all, if you couldn't communicate effectively with the group, then how were you going to bond with anyone, or learn anything effectively? Thankfully, that's something we don't have to worry about as much in the modern era with the success of the internet. No longer is the inability to speak effectively a notable disadvantage, as just as much communication today takes place through text mediums like the internet; truly, we live in a digital age.
In fact, it's tempting to go as far as to say that many with speech deficiencies find themselves learning and honing their crafts in a way that others simply cannot generate the motivation for, largely because learning by any means has a very personalized feeling that all of us with speech disabilities crave for. While others are chatting in a classroom and wasting time, those of us in the know were likely writing, solving problems in our minds or taking on any number of critical thinking tasks. As someone who did very poorly in school, but is self-taught on a multitude of disciplines, I know first-hand the advantages to having such an emotional attachment to learning and growing as an individual.
This isn't to say you shouldn't continue to work toward communicating better, but it should be comforting when you sit back and realize just how useful even the most frustrating of impediments can become in the grand scheme of your own growth. While I can only represent myself, I can't imagine there aren't more people out there who realize that their own hardships speak volumes every day about the quality person they've become.
