Happy New Year, Beautiful People!
Now that it's January, do you feel refreshed, renewed, reinvigorated, motivated to change? Here's a thought: why not feel this way year-round?! Do you ever wonder why, come February, your grand-master plans go by the wayside; fizzle into an oblivion? I might have an inkling...
While setting New Year goals can be inspiring, I find that most people tend to go about it the wrong way, biting off more than they can chew. The outcome indefinitely leads to failure, which is why I've personally washed my hands of the whole "making-one-big-giant-resolution" notion. I find that like a diet, resolutions often backfire, and leave you feeling worse for not living up to the tremendous expectations you impose on yourself. Naturally this freaks us out, and we end up running away from our grandiose plans at light speed, only to find ourselves in a much deeper, darker hole than we were in to begin with = No bueno!
In order to actually accomplish the goal(s) you have for the New Year, I'm ordering you to put an end any unrealistic, and ludicrous plans you've made. Instead, think small, not big! Why? Because slow and steady is what will win the race!
Follow these tips, and you're sure to have a continued sense of health, wealth, & happiness January-through-December!
#1). Make only 1-2 (at most) short-term goals, instead of one, big broad goal, which will send you into a tailspin! For example, if weight loss is a goal you have, why not aim to lose 5 pounds in 1 month, or maybe 8 pounds in 2 months, instead of, 'Oh I want to lose 30 pounds.' Sound too easy? It's supposed to be! If it's too difficult, you won't stick with it! It will, in essence, eat you alive!
#2). Be as specific as possible when it comes to your goal(s). For example, if it's weight you want to lose, declare exactly how many pounds you want to lose, and by which date. The more definitive you are, the more likely you are to reach and achieve your goals (IF they're realistic, that is!). When we are too broad, our goal gets lost, because we didn't take the time to create an action plan!
#3). Make your goal(s) your business! Meaning, treat your goal(s) like it's your business! In business, you need a model, and a plan in order to execute successfully, and thus, make DOLLA DOLLA BILLS! You cannot just say: 'Oh, well I need to sell cars to make money.' No! You need to figure out your strategy -Just how many cars do you need to sell to make X, how many hours do you need to work to reach that goal, how will you talk to customers to make a sale, etc. Just like in business, there should be many facets to your goal(s)!
#4). Write down your plan! I've said it many times before, but I'm going to say it again: WRITING THINGS DOWN is the ticket to sticking to it! Your goal(s) will seem more concrete, so you'll be much more likely to follow through with the plan! Doing this in a place that you see all day everyday-(i.e.: Bulletin board, refrigerator, bathroom, bedroom, office-whichever place would make the most sense)-is a brilliant idea, because you will never stop thinking about your plan, and therefore, will be less-inclined to derail from reaching your goal.
So, how about it? It's time to cut yourself some slack! Hop on the Easy and Enjoyable train to success, already!
