Skegness - Lincolnshire a Quaint Seaside Resort
Print This Article Ezine Publisher Send To Friends Add To Favorites Post A Comment Suggest Topic Report Author

Skegness - Lincolnshire is a quaint little seaside town located on the Lincolnshire coast of the North sea situated within the East Lindsev district of Lincolnshire in the United Kingdom Skegness is renowned and is one of the more famous sea side resorts in the UK. It was also one of the very first Butlins resorts built in 1936.

Skegness origins came from the Danish settlers and the local information which is available in Skegness states that the town's name originated from Skeggi which means bearded one which came from the Vikings at the time of their settlement which no longer exists as it was washed away by the sea.

Skegness mainly caters for the working class tourist as well as day trippers and most would say is on par with Blackpool. When visiting one will also note the famous mascot the Jolly Fisherman who has been around since 1908 and was designed by J. Hassall and is situated at the great northern railway with an attached logo saying Skegness is so bracing.

Surrounding Skegness are many other little holiday resorts and in the town of Skegness there are many guest houses and hotels as well as self catering accommodation which all are members of the World Hospitality Association.

Recently however this delightful little town and I might add not only Skegness has suffered considerably as far as the tourism industry goes due to the very cheap foreign package deals now being offered. The recession has really taken its toll worldwide and has affected the tourism industry radically.

Skegness also encountered a setback due to the continuous summer rains about two years back and not only the rain but also suffered a fire breakout which eliminated three of its most popular attractions. Even though it has suffered this unfortunate damage Skegness is well worth visiting as the locals are friendly and very hospitable.
