It is hard to believe that skateboard was originated from the soap box in the time between 1930 and 1940s. Though there are some other opinion about the origin of skate boards, the popularity of skate boarding is beyond any question.

Day by day the stunt loving people are doing unbelievable performance with it. Even the US army is using skateboards in their training in a program called 'Urban warrior 99'.

Skateboards are generally made with a plywood board along with quad wheel, quad truck and bearing system. There is no exact rules and regulations about the making of skateboards. The rider decides the design and functionality based on his required performances. Longboard is another type of skateboard having larger and softer wheels.

Deck, trucks, bearings, hardware and wheels are the basic parts to design a skateboard. Decks are made with cross-laminated layup of Canadian maple. Other materials are used to increase the deck's rigidity and strength. Decks are generally 28 to 33 inches long and 7 to 10.5 inches wide .Long boards have a longer deck than skateboard. Grip tape is used on the surface of the skateboard to grip rider's foot more strongly. Two metal trucks attach with the deck and wheel. They are mainly aluminum alloy. The top part of the truck named base plate and the hanger beneath it. The wheels are at different sizes, made with polyurethane. Small sizes of wheels are 48-54 mm and the bigger sizes are 65-90 mm based on the rider's choice.

There are 18.5 million of skateboarders around the world .Among them 74 percent are male and 85 percent are under the age of 18.the image of skateboarders are not quite well in the society .They are portrayed as rebellious, bad boy even most of them are not like that. They are just having harmless fun and sportsmanship among them. It was banned in Norway during the period between 1978 and 1989.The reason for that was the increased rate of personal injuries of the riders. Even now, the skate parks are discouraged by the neighbors as they fear the outcome would be drugs and crimes.

Skateboards can be used for transportation but it is highly discouraged as the risk of having serious head injuries are quite possible. Skateboarders often plays cat and mouse with cops .Because skateboarders often cause violation of rules.

It is the nature of the youth to do something ridiculous, something illegal and even dangerous. Skateboarding is a modern game but its popularity is increasing exponentially. Standing on a rolling wood, doing extreme performance is the cause of skateboard's awesomeness.
