But you can avoid it by lifting these objects with your legs bearing the major part of the weight. Do not stoop and lift the weight. Always bend your legs and lower your entire body in a squat, hold the object and rise slowly. This way your back would not strain under the load.

These techniques should be methods of physical and mental re-education to reduce habitual and unnecessary tension in all your activity through awareness of balance, posture and movement.
