Simple Steps to Unclog Your Bathroom Sink

Expert Author Jimmie Rodriguez

We use our bathroom sinks everyday so it is not very surprising that they get clogged once in a while. We know that our bathroom sinks are clogged when we notice that water starts to drain out at a very slow rate or almost not at all. There are a lot of things that could cause the clog like a debris or something you've dropped into the sink that is big enough to block the drain.

But how do we really unclog these nasty clogged sinks? It is easy to call a plumber and fix this problem but you know that getting help nowadays is really expensive. What you want to do is to clean up this mess on you own. It is really easy anyway.

If you have decided to do the unclogging on your own, you have to follow simple steps so you won't end up in a bigger disaster.

• Before trying to unclog the sink you have to determine what type of clog you are dealing with. Check if the clogging is partial or total. Knowing this will help you find the right solution for your problem.

• A partial or minor clogging is easy to unclog. Soft or greasy substances cause this kind of clogging. You will only need to use hot water or an industrial drain cleaner to dissolve the soft stuff that is forming the clog.

• You can also use a plunger to increase the pressure to help unclog the drain.

• If you are experiencing a complete or total clogging, hot water is definitely not the solution. It might require a more intensive way of removing the cause of the clog. One solution you can do is to clean the u-trap that is a part of the waste water line. It is connected from the drain of the sink to another pipe in the wall. Debris often get trapped in this area. Clean the u-trap using a wire to push out the debris.

• If this still does not work you will have to use a drill snake to remove the clog. A drill snake can work through pipes and often fixes the problem.

Unclogging bathroom sinks is an easy job but it is always better to keep your sink clean to prevent the clogging.
