Simple Boat Building Plans

Building a simple boat to enjoy time in on nearby rivers or lakes can be much easier than you think, provided you have the right boat building plans, tools and preparation. One of the first decisions you need to make when planning to build your boat is to decide what material you will use to build your boat. Fiberglass and wood are popular materials for boat construction. For the easiest boat construction experience, plywood is probably the best choice.

Once you have decided on the material to build with, you need to think about which building method you will use. With plywood, there are two popular methods of boat building: ply-on-wood construction or stitch-and-glue construction. The stitch-and-glue plywood building method is by far the easiest for beginners, so if you are looking for very simple boat building plans, this is the method you should choose.

The next step will be to decide what type of boat you will construct. This will largely be determined by what you would like to do with the craft. Are you looking to row around a lake for exercise? Do you want to relax and maybe fish from your boat? How big do you need your boat to be? Is it mainly for yourself, or will you be taking children, friends and others along on your boat outings?

Once you have decided on the type and size of your boat, you are ready to find the right boat building plans that meet your needs. There are many different plans available online, but for the best success you will want plans that offer more than a simple blueprint for building. Try to find boat plans that have excellent, detailed instructions that discuss the building process, to make your project much easier for you and more likely a success. With the right boat plans for the job, you should be able to build your boat quickly, efficiently and have a fun time in the process.

Bill Boor is a boat building enthusiast who recommends you find reliable wooden boat plans that are detailed and complete for your boat building project. Plywood boat plans may be the easiest boat building plans for beginners to use and follow.
