Signs of Pancreatic Cancer

Expert Author Emma Wanjiku

This is not an easy condition to diagnose the main reason being that; the pancreas is at a hidden position in the body and is therefore hard to get a physical test. Non-specific symptoms such as nausea and vomiting also delay the diagnosis. Just like other cancers, symptoms of pancreatic cancer are notable when the condition has become worse or is advanced.

With the help of screening tests at a hospital, doctors can easily see the cancer if present. There are also some symptoms that can guide you to know whether you might have the condition.

Some physical symptoms include changing colour to yellow and weight loss. When a tumour blocks the flow of bile into the pancreas, the change in the normal movement of bile causes the blood to change colour. The result is the condition referred to a jaundice which is responsible for the colour change.

Weight loss is or might not be that much big of a sign especially for those who have been trying to loose few pounds. However if you were not trying to loose some weight or are not doing a lot of physical exercises, you should find it fishy when you drop some pounds within a very short time. This might be a matter that needs to be looked into and might be a critical sign.

Symptoms that are non-specific but can help in diagnosing pancreatic cancer may include pain in the lower abdomen and nausea. Pain in the abdomen might get worse with some movements like lying down. On the other hand, nausea can include vomiting. These symptoms are termed as non-specific because they may indicate other conditions apart from pancreatic cancer. For proper analysis, it is advisable to seek professional advice.
