It seems like we are creating one major environmental catastrophe after another these days, and it surely seems we are not through yet. We have underwater Oil/Methane volcanoes putting out pressures of nearly 100,000 PSI, and we've already witnessed the nightmare from the BP oil leak as it surfaces and ends up on the beaches, interferes with wildlife, and "devoids" the Gulf of Mexico waters of oxygen. But this isn't the only recent mistake that has been made.
An interesting article to read on this topic is; "Relentless Mud Flows Burying Villages," by John M. Glionna which appeared in the Los Angeles Times on July 11, 2010. The story of course was about the Mud Volcano, which cannot be stopped, and it is still pumping out 100,000 tons a day of mud, it is burying villages literally. Why was this hole drilled into the ground? To find oil, but instead they found mud and now cannot stop it. Does this sound like a somewhat familiar challenge to you? It should.
Another interesting article to read as this BP oil leak continueth, is an article from the Financial Times in the UK written by Adam Thompson a Mexico City correspondent entitled; "Mexico Trains Public to Fight Oil Spill," as it appears this oil leak will not be contained and a Hurricane or the loop-current will bring the spill back around onto the Mexican shoreline, and if you consider how much shoreline they have in the Gulf of Mexico and around the Yucatan Peninsula that will be a huge challenge indeed.
Perhaps, you too have been following this on-going saga of "junk shots" and oil caps, and the inevitable challenge of relief well drilling too? Nothing seems to be working fast enough as we head into the most challenging months of the Atlantic Hurricane Season, where all bets are off, and predictions this early are futile.
Okay so, why did I write this article, after all the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, USA Today dedicates nearly one full-page of text and pictures on a daily basis, completely dominating the news - why write another article? Well, because no one seems to be asking the question; What have we learned by all of this? Well, we've learned a lot about geology of the upper Earth's crust below the surface, that's a fact - problem is we are not using this knowledge correctly.
That indeed is my sole purpose in writing this article, and I'd ask you to be thinking here, we are. Please consider all this.
