Should You Feel Bad About Loving Black Labradors?

Black labradors are the most popular breed in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia. But some people feel like if they were to like black labrador retrievers, they are selling out, jumping on the bandwagon.

But everybody loves a winner, right? Not always.

Look, let other people worry about their opinions on your choices.

Let's face it - black lab dogs are fantastic creatures.

They are extremely family friendly. They love children and typically get along great with other household pets. Even cats, though they rarely deserve it.

They are loyal. Once they get to know you and your family, they won't leave your side, and will spend their time worrying about where you are, what you're up to, and most importantly, what you're eating.

They are athletic. Labrador retrievers were bred as water dogs initially, to help pull fishing nets through the water. They became great hunting and scouting dogs as well, and are working in many different areas and services. While they don't usually leap over high fences, they have been known to take advantage of an open garden gate from time to time.

They are intelligent. Labrador retrievers are quick to learn and can be trained to do complicated tasks, such as rescue, police detection, and serving those with medical conditions. They're also smart enough to know that cabbage tastes terrible.

They are cute. Really, I'm going to throw that in there as a reason. Just look at a picture of these guys, from little ones right on up through old age. Seriously, look at black Labrador puppies. They are good looking dogs, period.

So should you feel bad about loving this fine specimen of an animal? Should you hold back on telling your friends that your next pet is going to be a labrador retriever?

Let them roll their eyes.

Let them say that it's like rooting for the Yankees.

If you attach yourself to black Labradors, you will never regret your decision, and will find companions that will bring you happiness, joy, and a few tennis balls for years to come.
