People often ask me if they should tell people about the products or the business. The answer to this question depends on a few factors. Here are a few questions to ask yourself to help you figure out the answer for yourself.
1) What are my gifts, strengths, passions, and obvious resources?
If you’re going to market your business, this is where you can sit back and decide what it is you would be passionate about doing. This is where you look at yourself and think through all the assets you bring to the table. What are you going to be most effective talking about?
If you are a nutritionist working with a wellness company and you already have hundreds of clients asking you questions about nutrition… start with the products, but then mention your referral program and how your clients can get the cost of their products covered by referring a few people.
If you’re an accountant then show your clients how they can save thousands of dollars this year with an in home business, but then back into the value of the products they’ll get access to. When you’re starting do what makes sense for your situation. Make your first priority having your business make a profit. Look at your gifts, strengths, passions, and connections to see what makes the most sense for you.
2) What Does the Person I’m Talking to Want?
If you are in a conversation with someone, ask a lot of questions about what THEY are interested in. You can just say something like “What part of this really interests you, the products, the business, or both”? Always ask people what they are interested in, and you will save time directing them to what they want.
3) What Are Your Goals?
Are you trying to make a little extra money? Do you want to quit your job and go full time? If you want to hit the big time in network marketing you must learn how to sponsor business partners or create them from your customers. No one can grow a massive global business by only bringing in customers. You simply can’t personally handle enough customers to maintain an extremely large steady income. You have to develop business partners who are growing their own teams. And that’s where the real freedom comes anyway. It comes when are developing other people who are leading their own teams.
