DIMENSIONS
The dimensions of the shed will also affect the design. A related point is that the proportions are established by understanding what the shed's use will be. Where the shed has to be wide or tall, there may be specific shed designs that are more appropriate, e.g. ones with higher roof space.
FLOORPLANS
The configuration of the area of the floor will contribute to identifying what kind of design you may want to have. A regular shed floor is square, however there is no reason why you should not amend this, for example if you want to combine a work space with a storage space.
CONFORMITY
Traditionally, sheds have not been designed to conform with the surrounding houses or other outbuildings. Despite this, presently, a great number designs are being produced which specify that the shed should almost be a smaller version or extension of the main home. This may be something you want to include in your shed's style.
ROOF DESIGN
This is one of the main things to take into account. Each of the styles looks different and each asks for varying skills sets to create.
PENT ROOF
This is the simplest roof style. It is essentially where the front wall is higher than the wall at the back, and the roof runs from the wall at the front to the back on an incline. It is straightforward to make because it just requires one piece of wood. If you want a straightforward shed, this is for you.
SALTBOX ROOF
This is a modification of the pent roof stye. However, instead of the roof just running from the taller wall at the front to the shorter rear wall, the roof is made up of two section. The first section starts from the front wall, but rather than being on a decline, it starts on an incline. This gives more height towards the front. After a small distance, this part of the roof then sharply declines to touch at the wall at the back. This design is great if you need to store a range of tall and short items.
PITCH ROOF
The pitch roof is a fashionable roof style. The left and right walls are of equal height, and they support the two sections of roof. These parts angle towards the other upwards and join in the center. Therefore, the front and back walls are square with triangles on the top, where the wall slowly meets the roof. This is quite a easy roof to construct, although you may need help when attaching the parts of the roof.
HIP ROOF
Hip Roof. This is a modification of the pitch roof. Nevertheless, rather than the roof being made of two parts, a hip roof is made up of four sections, with each wall being the resting place for a section of the roof. Each section leans in towards the middle, where they are then attached. It is a relatively challenging roof to build because of the number of parts.
GAMBREL ROOF
Gambrel Roof. This is a modification of the pitch roof. Nevertheless, whilst each of the two side walls are still supporting the roof sections, each part of the roof is comprised of two parts, almost like a curve. This enables the shed to contain more things which are higher because the roof volume of a pitch roofed shed is less than that of a gambrel roofed shed.
SO MUCH CHOICE
It can be overwhelming with the amount of shed designs to make your choice from. In spite of this, I would recommend being inspired by the style of your own home to make your new shed look like it has been there for ages.
