These are seven helpful tips to encourage young children to read more.

1. Make reading enjoyable for them. Do it as a fun activity by playing some games that would stimulate their energy leading to the start of the reading lessons. Make the reading lessons interesting enough with some playful storytelling so the children can understand more what they are reading.

2. Your choice of books is important. Remember to choose books that have many colourful pictures, illustrations and big letters for the children to read. Try to assign books according to their age groups so the children can cope up with their levels of learning. Young children have instant liking to books that they easily recognize.

3. Help the children understand each word to the level of their understanding. You can read the words aloud and they can follow, then you may have to explain what they are reading so they would be able to understand better.

4. You can help build up their reading skills by teaching them word recognition as the lessons continue. This would entail repeating the words a lot most of the time but it would be beneficial since it would help them remember the words better and appreciate their meaning.

5. Schedule the reading lessons on a regular basis. Make it a bonding time with the children and make them take turns in reading so everyone has the chance to read on their own. The more often the reading lessons are done, the better as this would make them look forward to a lot more reading.

We must be able to instill in them the proper ways of learning how to read. We can go a step further by encouraging them to love reading and have it become a part of their lives. It may take a lot of effort, patience and dedication to do this. Nonetheless, it may be all worth it since this would mean a more secured future for our children.
