If you have signed up for one of the many senior dating services and found someone that you are interested in, what do you do next? Taking that next step into actually planning a date can be confusing. After all, you have probably already realized that meeting offline is invariably different than meeting online.
First, you need to have sufficient communication. The excitement of getting matched with someone and exchanging a few emails and finding out that you have things in common can be overwhelming-especially if you have been looking for a long time. However, be sure that you aren't jumping into meeting someone too quickly. Senior dating services can be great, but no matter how many questions they have you answer there is no guarantee that the person that you meet in person will be the person that you met online.
When you meet the person in the flesh, make sure that you meet them in a public place. This is important for your safety. You should also try to meet them in the daylight hours the first time. Tell a friend where you are going, whom you are meeting, and any other pertinent details. This does not make you paranoid-it makes you smart.
Next, you need to decide together on where you are going. You should really try to pick a place that doesn't put too much pressure on either one of you. Do not go anywhere that is not conducive to having a great conversation. Most senior dating services will suggest going to dinner, visiting a museum, spending a day at a winery, or going to a park as great first date options.
When you plan the date, try to stick to just one location. For instance, if you are going to dinner then leave the plans at that-dinner. Don't try to plan dinner and a movie. This way, if the chemistry is not present or you are not feeling a connection with the person you won't feel pressured to continue the date. However, if you are on the date and it is going well then you might want to make further plans.
Senior dating services do their best to match up people with common interests. Yet, common interests do not equal compatibility. You both might enjoy ballroom dancing, but one partner might like it for the competitive aspects while the other might simply enjoy it as a recreational means. That is why it is imperative to have ample communication about your expectations of one another before you meet in person.
Using senior dating services can be a great way to meet people online, which will hopefully lead to meeting them offline as well. Just be smart in your decisions as far as where you want to take the date and how you want to proceed. Also, don't forget that you have no obligations to this person and that if you feel uncomfortable or at risk, you can always walk away.
