If you are like most Internet marketing entrepreneurs, chances are you have a few domains that you are not using. Domains you purchased early in your endeavours that don not quite fit anything you are marketing. Did you know that you can still make money off those unused domains by selling them?
Selling unused domains for profit is one of the simplest and least expensive ways to make money online. Other than the registration fees, there really is no other costs associated with selling your domains. You will need to do a little work and do some research as well as setting up a few accounts. But the small amount of work involved could prove to be more than well worth the time.
Here are some steps to get you started in the right direction:
Get an appraisal of the domain name from reputable sources. Places like EstiBot and SwiftAppraisal will perform an appraisal of the domain for free. This will give you an idea of what to look for when offers are made.
Take a look at the keywords in your domain name to see the volume of searches the keyword is attracting. An excellent place to do this is with Google External Keyword Tool. See how much the advertisers are paying for each visitor as well as the number of searches the keyword is getting on a monthly basis. Ideally you want to look for anything with over 1,000 searches and the advertisers are paying at least 50 cents per visit.
Go to NameStation and do a search for similar domains with different extensions. If you have a.com and the other extensions like.info and.net are taken, you may have a decent payday.
Whether or not your domain meets the above criteria, it is still a good idea to get the name listed for sale before your expiration date. Places like GoDaddy and Sedo are great places to get several people viewing your domain for sale.
Another avenue to make money is to "park" the domain at places like GoDaddy. When you "park" the domain, you get a certain percentage of the revenue that your parked page generates.
So take a look through your host provider and locate all of those unused domains you have, many of which you have probably forgotten about. Do not just let them expire and start selling domains for profit.
