Usually marble isn't something you pave with. However, in the rare occasion when Marble Paving is the way you want to go, then you need to make sure you're working with a good contractor who really understands what you need. There are several steps you can take to find a good contractor who can help you with all your paving needs. Usually any contractor that can do paving can work with any material, but with marble you may want to take some extra time to make sure that you hire someone who is familiar with that type of material. You don't want to have someone ruin the marble during the paving process as that could be quite costly.
To begin the decision making process you need to get a list of contractor candidates together. You can approach forming your list a couple of ways. The easiest way, but not the best way, is to just open the phonebook and get the names of some paving contractors from there. You won't know though if they understand the specific needs associated with Marble Paving until you do more research though. Another way to get candidates is to ask around to people you know and trust to see who they would recommend you talk to about doing your paving work for you.
Before you do further research on any candidate though, you should get a list that has the names of at least three possible contractors. You don't want too many more than that though or the interview process will take you a very long time to get through. Once you have a list you feel good about it is time to dig a little deeper on everyone that is on your list.
You should first create a list of questions that you will ask each candidate. The questions should cover everything you think you need to know about the contractor, like how long they've been in the paving business and whether or not they are familiar with marble as a paving material. Asking each contractor about the exact same series of questions is also important. If you ask them all the same questions it will make it much easier for you to compare the candidates later on when you are making your decision as to who you are going to hire.
You will also want to get bids from each candidate and a list of references from each candidate. You will need to follow up with each of the references that are provided to you. You should ask the references about any of the concerns you may have about a candidate to see if they are well-founded or not and you should ask if you can come by and see the work that was done.
