Whether puppy kindergarten classes are necessary or not is usually up to the owners. No two dogs are the same and neither is their relationship to their owners so it is a matter of assessing your situations and relationship with your dog. To give you more information to make the right decision, here is a little overview of puppy classes.
Usually, these classes teach your dog basic commands and tricks that can be used throughout his or her life. Sit, stay, come, heel are just a few of the commands that they are taught to obey. The basic procedure for teaching usually begins with the instructor demonstrating the command with a trained dog then allowing the participants to try it on their own. By doing this, you will be able to see how the command should actually be executed.
For those puppies that are having a difficult time, the instructors will try to suggest different training techniques since all puppies are different. Some may or may not work so it really is a matter of finding what technique fits your puppy the best. When the training technique is thoroughly explained, the instructor will move on to the next command and repeat the process above.
Of course, you should remember that the techniques shown by the instructor are not the only ones available. You can come up with your own ways of puppy training. Just keep in mind that they should be humane, fair and simple.
Another thing you can learn from puppy training instructors is how you can make your commands more useful and effective in a real-world setting. Teaching these commands to your dogs will be useless if you are not aware of its many practical applications. Once your dog masters these commands however, it will become a habit and will stay with him or her for life.
Last thing is that these commands are not merely for the sake of teaching your puppy commands. It will teach the puppy obedience and proper decorum at home and in public. It will give you more control over your pet and at the same time teach it how to act accordingly. You would not want to handle an untrained pet displaying bad behavior in public because that will just embarrass you and get you into unnecessary trouble.
Most trainers like keeping puppy training a positive exercise so a lot of praise, rewards and signs of encouragement are used in puppy kindergarten classes. This gives the puppy and owner more motivation to succeed as well as keeping the mood light and happy. Other bad training methods can be inhumane or too difficult which just leads to frustration and anger.
