See through sheer lingerie is one of the sexiest undergarments you can find. However, it doesn't necessarily mean that you need to have a Coca-cola body to wear it. Lingerie, in essence, was made to empower women. It is not only for the pleasure of your husband or partner but also to make you feel good about yourself. It should be comfortable and fitting to your body, whatever your shape is.
Because the truth is, people are all born in different shapes and sizes. Coincidentally, the standard of beauty refers to something that is unachievable to many. But if you look into history, it was never like that before. In fact, the history of the lingerie depended on the evolution of the concept of beauty.
For example, in ancient times, it was said that Minoan women from Crete had to wear bodices made of bone that pushed their breasts out, exposing it for everyone to see. Historians say that this is in fact to show that women had the power to create life. These kinds of societies showed the link between nature and humanity. In fact, there are ancient societies that were found matriarchal. And often, the women had everything to bear except their lower body parts.
Even in Roman civilization, women merely wore breast cloths. This can be seen in frescos of some surviving Roman structures. It was also customary for them to wear nothing at all beneath their togas, though at times they wear shorts or loincloths as undergarments.
During the medieval times, no one would have probably thought of see through sheer lingerie. It was considered the time of sexual denial as their undergarments were made to flatten the breasts until a woman doesn't seem to have one.
With the enlightenment brought about by the Renaissance, people started to embrace curves again. The hourglass figure was the ideal shape. But women took the challenge too seriously that they wore dangerously unhealthy corsets that left little space for breathing. Some passed out because their corsets were too tight. It was too much to fit into society.
As years passed, corsets were designed to be more breathable. With the popularity of the cleavage, corsets were made to showcase were also made to look more decorative. This was the time when corsets were embroidered and filled with lace and ribbon.
In the 19th century, corsets become less restrictive and more supportive of the womanly frame. The brassiere was patented by Mary Phelps Jacob. It was the birth of the bra.
During the First World War, when many men were forced to fight and join the war, the women were also forced to make a living for their families. Functional and lighter undergarments were made for them. Brassieres were made from breathable fabrics.
From then on, as women continue to break the glass ceiling, lingerie evolved and dared the modern time. Now, see through sheer lingerie is symbolic of the long history of women and undergarments evolution in society.
