What is Seborrhea?

Seborreic Dermatitis affects both children and adults. In children this skin problem is most commonly seen among babies. Among adults teenagers and individuals above 30 are most likely to be affected. There are many causes and triggers of Seborreic Dermatitis.

  • In babies Babies wear diapers most of the time. This gives rise to moist skin for long hours of the day which crinkles their skin and exposes them to germs and bacteria. This can be the cause of flaky and irritable skin, accompanied by rashes and red patches. This condition is also very common on the scalp of babies. Although it subsides over the initial growing period, the redness, itching and patches on the scalp are ugly and uncomfortable to deal with.
  • In adults Seborreic Dermatitis in adults mainly results from dry skin, yeast infection, allergies and bad eating habits. Sometimes people lack the natural oil that is produced by their skin on a daily basis. This dries skin up excessively. We all have the yeast Malassezia furfur in our bodies. However, those who have this yeast in large doses are more prone to Seborreic Dermatitis.
A lot of people confuse Seborreic Dermatitis with dandruff because this affects the scalp as well. However, this is different from dandruff. It is a disease that generates from allergies and skin conditions. Dandruff on the other hand is the result of bad lifestyle.

There are many medicines and treatments one can use to get rid of Seborreic Dermatitis. There are shampoos, soaps and powders prescribed for use to those who suffer from this skin condition. The main thing here is to change certain habits and practice a few precautions in one's daily life.

  • Don't eat food that contains high levels of complex sugar, carbohydrates and yeast. This will make matters worse for a Seborreic Dermatitis patient.
  • Drink lots of water. Eat green vegetables.
Use mild soaps and shampoos to wash body and hair. Apply intensive moisturizers and lotions to reduce dryness of skin. Don't scratch the skin even when it feels very itchy as this will increase the soreness of the condition.

Remedies

Babies

Usually you don't need to do anything specific to treat babies who suffer from Seborreic Dermatitis. However, if you want to get rid of the condition faster you may apply oil on the affected area and massage it gently before washing off with a mild soap. This improves the flakiness.

Adults

First detect all the areas of your body that have been affected by this condition. Earlobes, eyelids, scalp, folded regions such as inner thigh and groin, back, arms and even the feet can be affected with Seborreic Dermatitis. Use tea tree oil by applying it with any other hair or body oil all over the affected area to see results within days. Even if the use of anti bacterial topical medicine as well as oral drugs does not improve the situation you should get a skin biopsy done.

One of the best things that can be done for seborrhea is use specially formulated shampoos that use botanicals and specific herbal combinations to eliminate the signs and symptoms of scalp dermatitis.

Arianna Bell formulates herbal products specifically for seborrhea and other itchy scalp problems such as Scalp Dermatitis Treatments that are infused with botanicals and enzymes that remove the signs and symptoms of itchy scalp and dermatitis caused by seborrhea.
