Search Engine Optimization Initiatives - Link Building Strategies for Bing

For the longest time, the entire SEO community - including the SEO companies and experts - were very faithful to Google's guidelines in order to find out how SEO should be done. Several years have taught us that Google was the only giant who shaped the SEO activities in the world wide web.

But today, one very strong competitor has challenged the might of Google in the SEO battle. The search engine from Microsoft, Bing, has now provided really valuable information about link building - although some people believe that the information is similar to the advice that Google will give you, Bing wants to clarify a few points in order to avoid any possible confusion.

Like Google, Bing also puts a lot of weight on quality links in order to determine its rankings. Bing would like to make it clear to their clients that although they are not as big a Google (just yet), appearing in their search results is no product of instant gratification.

Successful link building efforts should be a long term commitment, and not an overnight solution. And just like how Google puts it, Bing wants their clients to continually invest in link building efforts with creativity and time.

If you are planning to test the SEO waters with Bing, there are a few things that you need to know. Below are some of the things that you should and should not do so that your link building efforts in Bing will go as smoothly as possible.

Things to Avoid

  • Suddenly increase the number of inbound links by orders or magnitude in a very short span of time
  • Flooding your site with several inbound links coming from irrelevant comments or from unrelated sites
  • Putting hidden links in your pages
  • Getting inbound links from paid link farms and the likes

Things to Do

  • Develop your site as a real business brand and be consistent
  • Find only relevant experts, bloggers, and product reviewers
  • Publish informative and short press releases online
  • Publish good quality articles to several online article directories
  • Be active in relevant conversations on blogs or forums and refer back to your site when necessary.
