I think I've just had what has got to be the most ridiculous spam email ever - I send it to the trash & blocked the sender, but the subject is one that I have seen before in forums & so on, and it's so crazy that it warrants talking about. Apparently, Google is not worth worrying about any more. According to the spam mail I received, it's time to say goodbye to Google!
According to the content of the email, Google is now to difficult to get results for, because apparently they're constantly moving the goal posts & getting more & more difficult to optimize for.
If it wasn't for the fact that I've heard web marketers saying similar things, I wouldn't have bothered even reading this email, but it interested me that people are actually believing this stuff.
Let me tell you right now, as a professional search engine marketing consultant - it is NOT time to say goodbye to Google! Unless of course you would like to say goodbye to between 70 to 95% of your potential search engine traffic!
Having been optimizing websites for a living for quite some time, I know from experience that Google are not constantly moving the goalposts or changing their requirements, they still want the same thing they've always wanted - all they're doing is making it more & more difficult for people to get away with shortcuts & cheats, ensuring that the wheat can become separated from the chaff.
Recently a client was concerned that some of their positions on one or two of the other search engines had dropped by a couple of places, thanks to the work we had done in order to gain good results with Google. So I looked into the traffic levels, and on average Google was pulling in 91% of the traffic! This was prior to the positions dropping on the other search engines, while the positions on the other engines were about the same as on Google, or higher in some cases.
Whenever I check stats, usually Google is responsible for roughly 70% - 90% of all search engine traffic.
So, say goodbye to Google - I don't think so!
