Satin Comforters and Satin Material Advantages

Expert Author Zafer Aktas

Satin comforter sets are so silky it seems and feels like pure silk. It has the qualities of softness and beautiful appearances. Quality satin is made from at least 300 thread count material and can be made seamless and offer wrinkle free qualities with lustrous sheen for added style. They are machine-washable and dryer-safe on gentle setting for easy care but to avoid pulling is better to hand-wash. The comforters, duvet covers and sheet sets are also reversible, same material both sides.

Most people however choose satin because of its smoothness and shininess. Smoothness comes from the small size and tight weaving of the fibers. Generally the tighter the weave, the smoother the surface, this is also referred to as thread count. The threads must be very thin to weave them tightly or densely. Shininess results from the type of thread. Few natural fibers are shiny, however man-made fiber like polyester, or acetate have a shiny surfaces.

The most common satin is made of polyester material, the most durable material. It is the first fabric really used for satin sheets, and probably the best buy. Being petroleum based, it is strong and machine washable. This is the same material like the slip under a dress, likely made of woven polyester. The desired fabric type is woven fabric. It is worth the extra cost beacuse it is the best way to get smooth finish and high thread count. The most reputable satin retailers do not stock sheets. The satin comforters and sheets are made when orders come in. This can take 1-4 weeks before it can actually ship.
