If the diet trends of the 1980s and 1990s had a clear-cut villain, fat was definitely it. We were told to avoid fat at all costs and found ourselves scouring supermarket aisles for low-fat and non-fat everything and anything. No meat, no cheese, no chocolate, no mayonnaise... the list goes on and on. And it made sense - if we didn't want to be fat, we didn't have to eat fat.
Nowadays, however, the name of the fat game has changed. First of all, fat has been largely replaced by carbohydrates in the diet-enemy game (thanks to the Adkins "eat all the bacon and steak you want as long as you avoid a banana" diet). Second of all, studies are showing more and more that fat is actually an essential part of a healthy diet.
Number one on the list of healthy fats is none other than Omega-3. These fatty acids are proven to improve heart health and brain function and have a number of other benefits.
Looking to add more Omega-3 into your diet? Look no further than Alaska Salmon. Omega-3 and Alaska Salmon go hand in hand as salmon is one of the best sources of this healthy fat. Omega-3 and Alaska Salmon have been proven to fight against cancer and heart disease, lowering cholesterol levels and fighting against blood clotting, inflammation and coronary spasms. The Omega-3s found in Alaska Salmon also improve immune system function.
To reap all the benefits Omega-3 and Alaska Salmon have to offer, seafood should be consumed two to four times per week. All varieties of Alaska Salmon are great sources of this fatty acid, so consumers will be happy to know they have a wide array of species to choose from. King, Sockeye, Coho, Chum or Pink Salmon? It doesn't matter - all are great ways to get at these heart-healthy fats.
It is easy to see that fat is no longer the villain in the diet game. While too much of anything is never a good thing, including some fat into your diet is extremely important to your well-being. Bringing healthy Omega-3s into ones diet with Alaska Salmon is a wonderful way to improve your health and stimulate your taste buds.
