Before you head out to work in the mornings, how often do you check to see what the tire pressure on your car is like? There are many things that we can all do in order to ensure that we have a safer trip to work, home, school or wherever our travels may take us.

When I was in college, there was a crime that was committed on our campus one night after a young lady was leaving from her science lab. Class had just let out, and she had walked back to her car that was parked on the other side of the parking lot in a somewhat dark area. There had been a lamp post there, but the light had blown out, and the reason why her car was somewhat isolated was due to the fact that when she first arrived at class a few hours ago, the parking lot had been full. However, her lab was the last one to let out.

Without thinking twice, the young lady apparently fumbled to get her key into the key lock of her car door. In that brief amount of time where she hesitated, a man dressed in dark clothing stepped out from the shadows and grabbed her. The man ended up assaulting the female, and the female was eventually able to run away and get help. Luckily for the female, she wasn't killed (as it is so often the case). This is a harsh lesson to us all though. It doesn't matter whether or not you are a man or woman, when you are walking back to your car at night, always illuminate the area around your vehicle if it isn't already illuminated. If this means carrying a pocket flashlight, then so be it. Your safety is worth it.
