Do you want to be a safer driver? Even if you don't mind tearing the roads up, your insurance company sure will love you if you are a safer driver, and ultimately you will be happy to keep your premiums at a minimum! That said, how can you be a safer driver?
A simple step towards safer driving is to make sure that you are fully awake and aware as you drive. Cut out distractions and maintain alertness. You can do this by napping during long trips or even by simply stopping so you can walk or get something to eat at routinely scheduled times during the duration of your travel. To keep alert you can listen to some of your favorite music, roll down your windows to let some fresh air into your car, or you can even talk with passengers or on your cell phone (through a hands free device) if legal in your neck of the woods. The phone would really be the method of last resort to keep mentally alert as it can be as much a distraction as an alertness tool.
Other ways to keep safe on the road are "no brainers." Don't drink and drive for one. If you know you are intoxicated or impaired, stay off the roads! If you have recently had a medical procedure that required anesthesia then you should abstain from driving as ordered by your doctor. You should also follow warning labels on any medication you may take in regard to driving. You may also want to consider staying off the roads after physically draining activities until you have had a chance to recuperate somewhat. Follow these tips and you will be on your way to having a safer trip in no time.
