Road Rules For Biking Children
Print This Article Ezine Publisher Send To Friends Add To Favorites Post A Comment Suggest Topic Report Author

There is hardly a teenager around who will refuse the gift of a bicycle because of the unique experiences it promises. One of the amazing things about this equipment is that after we have learned how to ride it, we do not usually forget how it is done. Some children will use them to go to school, to run errands, to learn new stunts and the list goes on.

Although we do not need a governmental issued license to ride on the public roads, there are road safety rules that will help to keep our children and us safe when we are out and about.

Observe Traffic Signal Lights

The traffic signal lights are there for all users and this includes cyclers. The stop signals is a particular difficult one for cyclers to obey, so encouraging our children to follow it, when they are young, will work to their advantage when they are older.

Ride In Union

Encourage them to always ride in the same direction as the other vehicles and not against the traffic.

Look Before Turning

They should always look behind them before making a turn and having a mirror on their bicycle will be helpful here.

Use Road - Not Sidewalks

Some adults, but especially children prefer to use the sidewalks and not the roads because we think that it is safer but this is not necessary true. In some places it is illegal to ride on them and because of the unpredictability of pedestrians and the unevenness of the sidewalks, more accidents takes place there, than among traffic.

Watch Out for Park Vehicles

Children can also look out for parked cars, they should not ride too close to them because someone may open the door suddenly and they can collide into the door.
