Type 2 diabetes is pretty much rampant across industrialized society in any country of the world. A combination of poor lifestyle factors, bad dietary choices, increasing stress levels and often out of control medication therapies have all lead to a growing number of individuals with this often deadly or debilitating disease.
Patients are conditioned from childhood to adulthood to not question the advice of conventional medicine. Unfortunately though, if this method of treatment was supposedly working, why do the already diagnosed numbers stay climbing and more and more people get added to this list every single day.
Reversing Diabetes Without Medications
Don't let anyone fool you into believing reversing diabetes in a type 2 diabetic is impossible.
No one is going to say it is easy. But it has been documented by utilizing a 4 step program you can often reduce (and sometimes even eliminate) your dependence on diabetic medications. So if you do not wish to rely on drugs, what are some of your options?
- Lose Weight
The #1 most effective treatment plan for reducing high blood sugars is to lose weight. Greater than 90% of type 2 diabetics are overweight. This leads to insulin resistance. Poor use of insulin or a general lack of insulin production will both eventually lead to a diagnosis of diabetes. Do not believe though there is any kind of magical pill for weight loss. It is nothing but time, lifestyle and dietary changes plus a lot of determination to achieve a satisfactory end result. One quick and easy dietary plan which will help to achieve a better result for your efforts is start thinking in terms of the density of your food selections. An example of this would be, which would you prefer to have - 12 grapes or 10 pieces of raisins. Most people would say it is the same thing because raisins are grapes. But the process of drying the raisins concentrates the sugars making them much higher in calories. Plus by losing all of their water content the raisins are now not as filling as eating the grapes. Therefore the average person will always eat a larger amount of dried fruits when compared to its fresh counterpart. - Exercise
Get it out of your head that exercise must equate to pain to be beneficial. Start slowly if you are out of shape and just take a daily walk. Start with 5 minutes if you must and then build that to 10 minutes over time. Keep adding a few more minutes as is possible. Try to build this up to 30 minutes a day about 4 to 5 days a week. Remember though a 30 minute walk is only 15 minutes out and then 15 minutes back to reach your starting point. - Diet
The hardest part of accepting a diabetic diet is mental, not physical. Your body does not crave giant heapings of pasta, jumbo muffins or sugary foods - your eyes do! Eating for most people is a programmed response. We eat what makes us comfortable, what we have trained ourselves to enjoy and all of this is mainly due to a response of time and family customs. Therefore yes, dietary changes are going to be necessary. Adding fresh non-starchy vegetables, whole grains, beans, lean meats, proteins from low-fat or non-fat dairy sources and a modest amount of fresh fruits will now have to become a part of your daily diet. But instead of giving up everything you loved, just learn to adjust your portion sizes. Then you can fill up your plate with other good for you servings from the other great dietary sources of fruits and vegetables. - Nutritional Supplements
Diabetes itself leads to a depletion of important vitamins, minerals and antioxidants in the body. A safe effective supplement program therefore must be initiated to help prevent and reverse many of the common complications which habitually affect this disease. Finding a good nutritional supplement though is best obtained by the guidance of a registered dietitian or a practitioner of alternative therapies.
