A compound known as Resveratrol has been controversial on claims that it is a fountain of youth. Continuous investigation on the benefits of Resveratrol, which is commonly found in red wine, is being done by numerous studies. It started in 1963 when Resveratrol was identified as an effective ingredient in an Asian Folk medicine referred to polygonum capsidatun (Latin) or kojo-kon (Japanese) and later, Resveratrol was found in grapevines. In 1992, Resveratrol was found in red wine.
Many studies have suggested drinking a 4-ounce glass of red wine during dinner because of Resveratrol's numerous health benefits. Scientists have found out that the compound has capabilities as that of antibiotics, protecting plants from fungus, viral infections, and disease. Resveratrol, like most plant compounds, is an antioxidant that protects plants from being damaged due to oxidative stress. Thus, antioxidants are compounds, which provide the vibrant colors of vegetables and fruits.
Resveratrol is one of the many antioxidants found in nature. Consequently, long-term good health and outmost protection from chronic and life-threatening diseases can be discarded if an individual would include antioxidants such as Resveratrol in their daily supplement routine.
Apart from being an antioxidant, Resveratrol is also a strong natural anti-inflammatory and an anti-mutagen. Anti-inflammatory medications are the common pain relievers available in drug stores; however, Resveratrol is natural and does not contain any other ingredient that may alter positive health results. On the other hand, an anti-mutagen is a compound, which obstructs healthy normal cells from becoming cancerous or growing tumors. Consequently, apart from being a natural inflammatory, the benefits of Resveratrol extends to preventing of cancer, heart disease, and other diseases related to chronic inflammation.
Continuous studies on other benefits of Resveratrol are still being conducted in numerous laboratories across the globe. It is believed to have anti-aging effect on cells as well as positive effects in combating Alzheimer's disease. According to a report from the Journal of Infectious Diseases, a decrease in the reproduction of influenza virus in cell lines became evident due to Resveratrol. As such, the compound is also believed to prevent or treat influenza.
With all the benefits of Resveratrol on health specifically in preventing and fighting detrimental diseases, it is no wonder that it is being referred to as a fountain of youth. Many people are now taking Resveratrol pills as their daily multivitamin although such pills are not yet proven miracle drugs. However, the important thing is to choose a supplement, which contains Resveratrol.
