Resumes - Three Reasons on Why is it Important To Only Write a Single Page Resume
Print This Article Ezine Publisher Send To Friends Add To Favorites Post A Comment Suggest Topic Report Author

OK, it's time to revamp your resume. With all of the good work experience that you have, it should be a snap to quickly compose some eloquent prose designed to get your paper the much needed attention that it deserves. But now there is another problem. By including all of your valuable work experience, this paper has gotten out of hand and you a three page long document. What can you do? The employer has to see all of your work experience to have a good chance of landing this position right? Wrong! Let's see what to do in this case.

By writing a single page resume, you are virtually guaranteeing that yours will at least get the 20 to 30 seconds that hiring managers use to separate the papers in the first cut. Anything longer will most likely not get looked at even though it may contain valuable skills and information. These people are under a deadline and don't have time to wade through the mountain of paperwork for a single position.

For any given position, only include relevant work experience for the position being applied for here. You may have more work skills but if they don't directly tie into this job, chances are that the reader will ignore them anyway. They are trained to look for certain key words and qualifications. Don't put in extraneous details, these can be brought up in the interview if you feel strongly about them.

Since the one page style is favored by most companies and their personnel departments, you are showing professional savvy and the ability to keep up with the times. Combining the one page resume with a cover letter shows that you know proper business protocol and will be an asset to the company.

So put in those applicable skills and summarize everything else. This will put you in good company along with the rest of the winners.

Good luck.
