How important is your resume in your quest for employment? Are they over rated? Under rated? Can a strong interview make up for a weak resume? Can a strong resume overcome a weak showing in the interview room? What are some of the best tips for preparing a strong resume? Your resume is like a little ambassador that is sent out in advance of what you hope will be a meeting. It is your introduction to your prospective employer showcasing (or, at least, announcing) your talents, who you are and why she needs you; (as well as where you can be reached to set up a face to face meeting).

In the traditional, corporate employment market, resumes are extremely important and one would be hard pressed to consider them as "over rated". We never get a second chance to make a first impression and a resume is your first impression, so you can forget this business right now about making up for a weak resume with a strong interview. The reality of the matter is, if you have a weak resume, chances are overwhelming there will be NO interview in which to try to make up lost ground.

You definitely want to present a resume that is a concise, general summation of your major accomplishments, schooling, and job experience that is neat and organized and aesthetically pleasing as well as informative, without either being braggadocio or droning on into minor details. This is not a biography, so you'll want to spare the theatrics as well as the minutiae. By the way, if you are requested to mail in a CV, or Curriculum Vitae, don't get nervous. That's just Latin for resume, (or, 'course of life'). Make no mistake, the sole purpose of the resume is to get you an interview, but rarely will a strong resume overcome a Nightmare On Elm Street interview. Sorry. Your resume is a crucial early step in the employment seeking process. Be very familiar with everything you include on it and be prepared to talk about them at the drop of a hat. Therefore, if you can't walk on water, you shouldn't say that you can on the resume because you will be asked about it. It's never the sign of a good interview when half the time is spent explaining the embellishments you placed on your resume.

One of the best tips for writing your resume is don't save the best for last. Many hiring managers only skim the reams of resumes they are given and may not actually make it to the end. Lead with your best stuff.

While looking for a job, you should consider making money on the Internet, at least in the interim. You'd be surprised how little an investment is actually required. I specialize in helping people create residual income from the comfort of their home where resumes and interviews are never an issue.

Bosco McGowan: The Residual Income Guy specializes in using the internet to show others how to create Residual Income for years (and possibly decades) to come.

Bosco was spoiled in a previous life as a writer on the classic American sit-com, Happy Days, which continues to pay him to this day. Thanks to the advent of the internet, anybody can create recurring potentially lifelong payments, from work performed or an investment made once (and without having to resort to show-biz).
