When you are considering starting your own home business, there are so many options out there that it can make your head spin. To narrow it down, you choose to resell rights products. But, where do you start?
There are dozens of websites offering merchandise with resell and master-resell rights. You need to understand the difference to be able to market either successfully. With the first, you purchase the book or software and receive permission to market the item to your customers. The second type of rights, allows you to offer not only the item but also the rights for your customers to re-promote the item themselves.
Like any Internet business in the information-marketing arena, your best bet is to start with the basics.
1. Know your intended market. This allows you to choose a product that will sell. It would not make much sense to offer an e-book on car-repair, if your targeted audience is interested in hothouse flowers. So the first step is to choose a niche market and then select a item that they will be interested in.
2. Know your product. To effectively market any item, you need to know what benefits it offers to potential customers. People buy things to solve problems, so knowing what problem your merchandise solves will drastically increase your number of sales.
3. Determine a marketing strategy. How do you plan to get your item in front of the customer's eyes? Article writing is an option, with links to your sales page in the author's resource box. PPC advertising lets you purchase "clicks" when a user searches a search engine like Google or Yahoo!. There are dozens of methods of advertising, including direct e-mail marketing. You should know before you begin which method or methods you are going to use.
4. Have a Product Delivery Plan. Digital merchandise is simpler to process than physical ones, but you still have to get the item to the customer once the sale is made. If you want to get a reputation for quick delivery, having a PDP in place before you begin is a must. Some options are: a thank you page that the customer is directed to after the payment is processed, or even something as simple as delivering a link via e-mail that the customer can download the product from.
5. Payment Processing. The goal of any business is getting paid. This area covers a lot of choices, as well. There are shopping carts, "buy it now buttons" to accept electronic payments or you can choose to accept checks or money orders via postal mail. What ever method you select, make sure to test it before opening for business. There is nothing more frustrating than promoting a product only to find that a mistyped piece of code is keeping your customer from sending you money.
Once you know what rights you have purchased and the ones you can convey to your customers, you need to market your merchandise in a way that will convert visitors to your site into paying customers. Followed by closing the sale with some form of payment processing and the delivery of the merchandise to the customer. It seems simple, but a lot of choices go into providing a smooth buying experience for your customers. Selling resell right products such as e-books and software can be a profitable venture once you have the necessary processes in place.
