Those who own a dollar store are often amazed at the speed with which merchandise sells. While there is a somewhat steady pace at times, other times you will experience an almost unbelievable burst of sales for no apparent reason. When these extra sales occur a store that looked like it was filled to the ceiling on one day can suddenly appear to be nearly empty. It is important to maintain a steady in-flow of replenishment merchandise from your suppliers to help handle these cases. It is also important to immediately respond with orders for the most in-demand merchandise. Read on for 5 tactics to keep your store looking full at all times.

Tactic #1) Know your top selling merchandise. When you own a dollar store there will be a core set of products that perform like clockwork when it comes to bringing shoppers into your dollar store. These are products that your shoppers need and want. They count on you to always have these items in-stock and available whenever they are needed. Know these products. Conduct physical inventories on a routine basis. Be sure these items are always in-stock.

Tactic#2) Carry back-up stock to replenish the sales floor after extra big sales days occur. Always be on the lookout for special, deeply discounted deals on wholesale merchandise from your suppliers. When you locate them, buy extra to cover for those big sales days. Not only will your store maintain a fully-stocked appearance, but you will also make extra profits.

Tactic #3) Establish weekly inventory and buying schedules to maintain an in-flow of replenishment merchandise. Rather than tying all your money up in inventory and back stock try a new approach. Let your suppliers act as your warehouse. This tactic requires regular, routine orders of core, high-demand products. This creates a constant flow of merchandise into your store. With experience you will be able to time your buying so new items arrive just as the last of the in-stock items are selling out.

Tactic #4) Keep your store looking full by properly managing the merchandise on your sales floor. Establish quick receiving to sales floor processes. Learn stocking procedures to cover for shortfalls in merchandise when they occur. Then establish routine walk-through and clean-up processes to keep your store looking at its best.

Tactic #5) Watch your dollar store sales levels. When you own a dollar store it is important to react quickly whenever there are unexpected spikes in sales. Immediately submit a replenishment order for top selling merchandise from your suppliers.

To your success when you own a dollar store!
