Some of the sites you may visit for help with removing Antivirus 2009 may benefit from the widespread distribution of this malware by selling software to get rid of it.

I don't mean to say that this is altogether terrible, for they are providing a service. I do mean to say that it is possible that you may not need additional software to remove Antivirus 2009 from your computer. (You'll be able to find out in just a moment.)
That being said, you should also realize that if you had kept your security software up to date, your computer probably wouldn't be infected with Antivirus 2009 in the first place. Knowing how to remove Antivirus 2009 doesn't mean your computer is protected from it either.

This malware is designed to scare you into paying for a bogus cure for a phony infection.
You should never buy anything that you haven't researched or without a recommendation from a trusted source.

How To Remove Antivirus 2009

I have been successful in removing Antivirus 2009 (or instructing others to) by using this method. It's easy enough for just about anyone to do and it does work. I'm sure there are situations that it won't work, but it will work in many cases.

The System Restore Utility is intended to undo changes to your system that have made it unstable.
It can also be an effective means of restoring your computer to a point in time that it didn't have Antivirus 2009 on it.

To remove Antivirus 2009, try restoring your system to an earlier date that you think you didn't have Antivirus 2009 on it, then run a full virus scan and spyware scan with current virus and spyware definitions.

To run system restore:

  • Click your Start button.
  • Mouse over All Programs, Accessories, System Tools.
  • Click System Restore.
  • Click 'Restore my computer to an earlier time'.
  • Click 'Next'. Select one of the Boldface Dates.
  • Click 'Next'.

Reboot you computer when prompted and run your (current) antivirus and antispyware softwares.
