Before you undertake any stuttering therapy or home-based program, you need to be prepared to accept that there is going to have to be some change in yourself. There is no cure for a stutter, but many recovering stutterers out there have applied themselves totally to their fluency technique. They don't allow anyone else or anything to drive their fluency. They selfishly guard their fluency and use their technique every time they open their mouths to speak.
They know that control over their fluency has changed them. They now have a positive attitude, they no longer avoid speaking situations, they have strong self-belief and self-esteem, they now have control over their fluency, their lives.
No wonder they're selfish about their use of fluency technique.
The adoption of a new technique that leads to fluency control will not only see a change in the way that you speak, but more importantly, a change within you.
- Your thinking will change and you will become more positive about things in general.
- You will feel more confident in yourself and will tend to take on roles in life that are more challenging.
- The thought of stuttering will take less and less of a controlling factor in your life.
- Residual negativity within your mind will gradually disappear. The adoption of your fluency technique will allow you to experience life to the fullest.
- Remind yourself why you decided to take control of your stutter. Write down the positives and the negatives of applying yourself to your new fluency technique. The positives will outweigh the negatives 100 to 1.
- Life is a gift to us all and we should experience it to its fullest extent.
- We alone must take personal responsibility for our own recovery.
You must understand that gaining control over your fluency and beating that stutter is not a bed of roses and that a great deal of concentration, hard work and commitment is necessary in managing your stutter. Allow yourself to experience control over your fluency, you will ask yourself why you didn't undertake solid home-based stuttering therapy before.
Join me on that road to fluency.
