Radio Control

We take it everywhere with us. Radio is the most portable form of entertainment. Radio music has long been entertainment to the masses. How much influence has radio music had over society throughout the years?

Since the early 1900s people have been listening to music. It has long been one of the most powerful influences in the music industry. Radio is one of the most accessible forms of media, making it convenient for nearly everyone on the planet to listen to music. It helps them experience the emotions in their lives, celebrate their victories, and express themselves in a way nothing else can. Everyone has a preference when it comes to the music they listen to, but how much of that really is personal preference, and how much of it is directly influenced by the radio music we're exposed to?

In the music industry, it's pretty well known that to become successful you need to be played on the radio. Playing live shows or recording an album might get a band noticed in a limited local scene, but to become widely recognized, their music must be played on the radio. The reason is clear; most people listen to the radio. When an artist plays a new venue, they reach the fans in attendance. When they release a new album, they reach the people who hear it through album sales. If that album isn't radio music, chances are most of the population won't hear them.

As music listeners, we depend on music to show us what's good. We know that the radio stations want us to be listeners, so they only play the best radio music to keep us coming back. Our musical preferences are a direct reflection of the local radio stations we're exposed to because that's what we know. If the only music available in our area were classical music that would probably be the type of music we would prefer to hear. Radio music does more than shape how we listen to music; it also shapes how music is made. In the music industry, artists strive to accomplish a certain sound that will be appealing to the general population. That's because they know in order to become radio musicians, they need to be the sound that's hot right now. The popularity of radio music gives radio stations a great deal of influence over how we live our lives, what we enjoy, and the style of the area they reach.

For over a century music has affected a great deal of our lives. Radio music shapes what we like to listen to and how we feel. It tells the music industry what type of music to produce. It is a reflection of what the population wants, and it's a reflection of the changes we see in society. There have been a lot of advances in technology in recent decades, but no matter what new technology we see, people will still look to radio music to help us find our inspirations, our joys, and our entertainment. You can bet that radio music will continue to evolve to meet the needs of the changing population throughout the next century.
