Purchasing a rabbit cage is an easy job, provided you know what to look out for. You need to have a thorough knowledge on the material used for the cage, the size and shape of the cage etc. If you are not one of those lucky ones, then you should follow the below mentioned tips which would guide you on how to buy one.
People end up buying stylish rabbit cages realizing later that their pet rabbit does not fit in that cage, the rabbit feels uncomfortable and ultimately you do not have the satisfaction that you have bought something good for your pet.The first thing to keep in mind while shopping for a rabbit cage is the size of your pet. If you buy a slightly larger cage, it is fine but do not settle for a smaller one. Rabbits by nature are very fidgety and restless and a smaller cage would mean imprisoning the pet. Moreover, it is also not possible to get the perfect measurement, hence make sure to buy a slightly larger one.
Secondly, also keep in mind that your pet is going to grow and once it outgrows the cage, you would have to dump that old cage. Keeping all these things in mind, go in for a larger sized cage. The material used for making the cage should be sturdy, considering the continuous movements your rabbit would be making within the cage. A weak cage would easily break and you would have to incur extra expenditure either repairing the cage or buying a new one. Ventilation is another important factor. A well ventilated rabbit cage is important so that your pet breathes fresh air. But in cold weather, the pet would have to be wrapped well, lest it die of cold.
Most of the rabbit cages are made of mesh walls or wire floors. Wooden floors are also used for making the flooring. Wired cages are the preferred options when it comes to rabbit cages. The cage is provided with a catch tray where the rabbit jumps from the floor and lands on the tray. Moreover, it is easier to clean the tray. If the cage is made of wire floors, the rabbit would suffer from sore hocks because wires are hard in nature. Your pet would suffer from fur loss or skin abrasions which could be painful.
Solid plastic base flooring is also quite popular since they are lightweight as well as sturdy and are gentler on the pet's skin and body.
